Objects of the Council
The objects of the Council are to represent and promote the Northern Territory's Resources industry, including:
- identifying key challenges to it;
- promoting opportunities for it;
- developing and promulgating effective policies for Members, in response to such challenges and opportunities;
- representing it and liaising on behalf of it with government, the Northern Territory community, and other stakeholders in the Northern Territory's economy and society;
- promoting public awareness of its role in society and to ensure educators, students, community groups and the public have a balanced and informed understanding of it;
- encouraging careers and research in relevant disciplines and technical skills required by it;
- advocating corporate responsibility amongst Members;
- promoting high levels of environmental and safety performance, and a culture of continuous improvement within it, and influencing environmental and occupational health and safety policies of importance to it; and
- facilitating its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people effected by it.
Classes Of Membership
There will be six classes of Membership of the Council as follows:
- Full Membership – Producer Member;
- Full Membership – Explorer Member;
- Full Membership – Service Member;
- Service Member;
- Associate Member; and
- Life and Honorary Members.
Eligibility For Membership
Full Members Includes any Person who is interested in the objects of the Council; and who is either:
- Producer Member A producer engaged in the development, extraction, or processing of Resources,
- Explorer Member An explorer engaged in the exploration or retention of areas for Resources, or
- Service Member A company or Person engaged by Producers or Explorers in their production, development, exploration or retention activities. and is willing to accept the provisions of this Constitution; is eligible to apply for full Membership of the Council.
Service Members
- A Person who is interested in the objects of the Council, and who carries on a business of supplying goods or performing or supplying services or processes for use in or by the resources industry is eligible to apply for Service Membership of the Council.
- Applications for Service Membership shall be made in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution and shall be determined by the Management Committee in its discretion, saving that a complying application shall not be unreasonably refused.
Associate Members
- A self-employed Person who is interested in the objects of the Council, and whose business activities are directly or indirectly connected with the Resources industry shall be entitled to apply for Associate Membership of the Council.
- Applications for Associate Membership shall be made in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution and shall be determined by the Management Committee in its discretion, saving that a complying application shall not be unreasonably refused.
- For the purpose of this clause a self-employed Person:
- does not include a Person who is a proprietor of a firm who is in partnership with or employs others; but
- does include a Person operating a business through a company structure that has that Person as sole director and does not employ or otherwise engage on a full time basis another Person.
Life and Honorary Members
Membership is restricted to Persons whom the Council's Management Committee made Honorary or Life Members prior to the adoption of this Constitution.
- Life Membership
- is restricted to individuals the Management Committee considers have rendered outstanding service to the Council.
- Honorary Membership
- is restricted to individuals visiting the Northern Territory, who have a connection with the exploration, mining, minerals processing and petroleum industries.
